POSTOJNA CAVE AND PREDJAMA CASTLE
Under the Postojna Cave Park there is a wonderful subterranean world of passages, halls and galleries abundant with cave formations – the Postojna Cave. In its close vicinity there is the Predjama Castle, a mysterious world brimming with legends, which is part of the Guiness Book of Records as the largest cave castle.
This tour will take you to Slovenia, a country bordering Croatia. In approximately two hours you will change the calm Istrian landscape with the rougher, but equally attractive, Postojna Cave Park. Visitors will be dazzled by a wealth of speleothems: calcite formations, stalactites and stalagmites abounding in a variety of shapes, colours and age. The temperature in the cave is constant and ranges from 8 to 10° C. A guided visit lasts an hour and a half. Audioguides are also available.
If you choose to buy a combined ticket, you can also visit the Predjama Castle. It offers a unique insight into the construction techniques and ingenuity of medieval people. It is situated above a cave which is also open to visitors except for the bats hibernation period. No electric lighting is provided inside the cave, however, visitors are provided with battery-powered lights and helmets before entering the cave.
